Hi Stox et al
Just wondering what you considered a successful winrate to be - granted it may be different at different stakes, but interested in knowing what the pros feel theirs is, and also what they would consider to be decent at my level (NL 1/2: i.e $200 buy in)
Thanks

anyone winning 1bb/100 in limit or 2-3bb/100 in NL is good. this varies widely by limit however and I would consider top 5% of playes at 200NL to (im guessing) be in the 4/100 range.

as an aside, unless you see someones database, don't believe what they tell you their winrate is. They are either lying or are only including a small sample size from the time they were running good.

Thanks guys - does this suggest that I should be considering moving up as my winrate is over 4BB/100 whilst 10 tabling, and that data is based on 150K hands?

Hmm I would consider Stoxtrader's bb/100 examples as a good solid win rate on tought limits or as mediocre on midstakes.
As I discovered in fixed limit
2 - 2,4bb/100 is possible for very good players (not on the highest lvls)
2,4 - 3bb/100 is possible but it needs a fantastic player who is capable to beat the limit almost perfectly
On highstakes 50/100 and higher winrates usually degenerate to 1 - 2bb/100 for very good players, simply because there isn't enough fish and it's hard to have super specific reads to apply the right moves all the time..
For NL I am by far no expert but I've seen friends winning with 7bb/100 or more over 120k+ on limits such as 3/6 NL. The higher the limits, the harder to win big. So I assume 25/50NL and higher it needs a monster of a player to win with anything around 4-5bb/100.I am not exaggerating or trying to make my friends look good, neither do they need to fake stats. Any comments?

I think you hit the nail on the head. Stox's examples of 2-3bb/100 seem to be about right at 1k nl and up. However, at 200-400nl 7bb/100 or more is very possbile. I do want to clarify one thing. just to make sure we are all on the same page, we are all talking Poker Tracker bb/100 right?
I don't have enough experience with full ring but can a player expect to win as many bb in full ring as 6 max?

Leather,
curious what limits you play. And to answer your questions, I am also assuming we're talking about ptbb. as far as full ring v 6max, it depends on your style. I've always won more at FR than I have at 6-max, so it is my preferred game.
I'm also curious why you think 7ptbb/100 is more possible at 200-400NL.

I mostly play 200nl with about 10% of my poker at 400nl and up. The reason I think it's possible to earn 7bb or more at 200 and 400nl is because the players are much worse than at the 1k and 2k nl.

my mistake, I thought by 200-400NL you meant those were the blinds, so you can see my confusion.

LOL. I'll definetly admit I was having trouble figuring out what you meant.

How many hands is "enough" to be pretty confident about your PTBB/100?

Leather - when you say 7BB/100 at 200NL, are you basically meaning $28 per 100 - as per the Pokertracker definition of a BB?
Also, does you 7BB figure remain correct for multitabling? If so how many tables do you play at a time?

Kitty,
I was pretty confident about my winrate after about 100k hands, right before I lost 14 buyins. I think you need to have at least 2 big downswings before knowing how much you win with variance. That can be 75k hands, or 500k hands. In general though, you should have some kind of idea after about 50k hands if you are at least a winning player.

Yes I do mean $28 per 100 hands.
I currently 6 table on average.
I guess i felt pretty confident in my win rate after 200k hands but I suppose it doesn't really take that long to at least get a ballpark number.

Leather - which sites do you play, as those are the limits Im at?

Thanks <cough cough>. I've now taken care of the first big downswing.
I never should have asked.

yea, leather, what sites are you playing at and what's your handle? i usually play around those limits (but almost always 6 handed). I'd really rather not play against a pro, haha.
